- ELEMENTARY &
SECONDARY SCHOOL
A
quality education remains a distant dream for the estimated 450,000
children who are orphans in Rwanda. And yet education is so critical
to providing hope for a child's future. Education will be a major emphasis
in all of the children's homes of NCV. NCV will also offer day schooling
to children in the community.
The school will need various donations including computers for the children
possibly with access to the internet.
- MECHANIC WORKSHOP/CENTER
The children of the orphanage will be taught by a professional instructor.
They will learn the mechanics of automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles.
The needs for this section will be the basic equipments for the instruction
of mechanics.
- CARPENTRY (WOOD-WORK)
WORKSHOP
The children and the youth of NCV will learn the fabrication of wood
(sculpture, statues, libraries, tables and chairs), etc
They will
be taught by a professional instructor. The needs for this workshop
will be basic equipments for the instruction of wood-work.
- SEWING WORKSHOP
The girls will be taught by an instructor. They will learn the techniques
of sewing. The needs for this workshop are basic equipment for the instruction
of sewing.
- TECHNOLOGY/COMPUTER
WORKSHOP
Under the supervision of a computer scientist/technician, the children
will learn how to repair and build technological apparels and other
peripherals (computers, VCR and DVD), as well as customer service skills.
They will work on the restoration of old computers and other technology
products donated by the U.S. and other parts of the world.
- THE LIBRARY
The library will be a resource in terms of cultural education for the
local population It will provide services to the children residing in
the orphanage. NCV will develop a collection of books and reading materials.
- FARMING
A farm will be established on NCV grounds to promote good practice in
livestock care, soil improvement and care of the environment. There
are plans to create a training centre at the farm so that young people
can spend time there and take back the skills to their villages. This
project will work in partnership with local farmers.
- AGRICULTURE
NCV plans to have a farmable land near the village in order to facilitate
agricultural production. It is important to us to provide to all the
children with training in this domain. Activities such as the maintenance
of the farm, orchards or vegetables will allow the children to hold
summer jobs in this domain,
- ORCHARD
Most people would rather feed themselves and their families than depend
on handouts from someone else.
NCV will be active in sponsoring food gardens at both the family and
community level, will support numerous community agriculture projects,
supplying seeds, tools and training to help families become more self-sufficient.
An orchard will be set up near the village and fruit could be harvested
in just a few years. In order to facilitate the irrigation system of
the orchard, we will need a motorized water pump.
- CLINIC (COMMUNITY
HEALTH CENTER)
Disease and lack of education remain big problems in Rwanda. The government
is trying to make primary schooling freely available, but there are
still many children who receive little or no schooling. Health care
is extremely rudimentary, with 400 qualified doctors serving a population
of over 8 million, and many die young from preventable disease. AIDS
is a growing problem.
A Medical clinic will be built on NCV grounds. This will offer sensitive
care to those suffering from cholera, malaria, typhoid and other diseases.
The community health center will carry out numerous consultations each
week and will be located on the premises of the orphanage. A central
team of general doctors will be formed and will have the role of planning,
programming and supervising as a whole the activities of the community
health center in accordance with the goals of the orphanage.
- GUEST HOUSE
A Guest House will be constructed on site. It will provide local employment,
encourage volunteers to visit the village as they will be accommodated
onsite with the children during their stay, will provide accommodation
for certain business, government and NGO visitors to generate income
for the village.
