From Orphanage to Educational Institution
“Nibakure Children’s Village” was founded in 2011 as an orphanage.
In 2012, Rwanda changed its child welfare policy and began working to phase out all orphanages.
NCV ceased operating as an orphanage in 2016 but continued to support former residents’ education.
In conversation with many local families, NCV pivoted to become a comprehensive community center and changed its name to “Nibakure Community Village.”
Today education is the cornerstone of NCV’s programing.
Housing for orphans was initially converted into classroom space for three levels of preschool.
We have since begun constructing dedicated school buildings, with plans to continue growing with our students.
In addition to our school:
NCV offers training in farming and animal husbandry. Over time, greenhouses, additional crops, sustainable agricultural practices, and livestock have been added.
We have successfully piloted an adult Vocational Training Program and frequently host community events such as health clinics and community celebrations.
